New Single: "Can't Get Enough (Of Your Rock & Roll)" by The Escapades
Quarantine has certainly put the lid on the pressure cooker of the world. I’m certain that I’m not just speaking for myself when I say that we all need to blow off some steam. Cut loose. Maybe headbang alone in our apartments while the world outside runs amok. Things are crazy, and if we don’t let some of this excess energy out, I know that I, for one, am going to lose it. Luckily for us, our boys The Escapades have come in clutch yet again.
“Can’t Get Enough (of Your Rock & Roll)” is one of those songs that’s chaotic energy rolled tightly into a good time. From the very first instant that infectious bass kicks in, you can’t stop yourself from tapping your feet. The guitar kicks in and all of a sudden you’re dancing around in your bedroom. By the time Kieran Taylor starts to sing, you’re compelled to sing and shriek along. It’s a song to get your blood pumping, one that takes you out of yourself and out of your head. If you close your eyes you can almost imagine yourself in the midst of a crowded venue, thrashing around while the smoke and the noise overpower you. I don’t think it’s just the cabin fever talking: this song just rocks.
What I love the most about this song is how obvious it is that the band had fun playing this track. Oliver Steel and Jack Laws’ playful guitar and bass playing alike are playful and powerful, slinky and seductive. Patrick Kelly really gets to let loose, making short work of the drums. When Kiernan’s smooth voice morphs into that ecstatic shriek around 1:25, all I could picture was a wild animal baying at the moon. The best part of this track is when things seemingly cool down after the second chorus, after Oliver and Jack get to really go wild and show off a bit of their skill. At 1:53, they all collect themselves, give a cheeky “ahem,” and proceed to go buck wild all over again. It’s a Dionysian frenzy of energy and sex appeal, which is exactly what you want from a good rock song.
When the world opens back up, and people begin to socialize and slowly file back into concert halls and packed venues, I hope that The Escapades open with this hit. It’s got the energy we need to hear, and after all this time cooped up, we’re going to want to cut loose. I’m going to want to lose myself in the noise and the organized chaos, limbs thrashing around and hair in my eyes. “Can’t Get Enough” packs the perfect punch for such an occasion. I can’t wait to dance about to this wild good time of a song with everyone else, but until I can, I’ll simply crank my stereo and imagine the show in my living room. For the next best solution, it’s a damn good one.
